چکیده

Shear wave velocities from full waveform acoustic logs were determined at DSDP Site 613 using the spectral ratio inversion method. Discrete shear wave velocities for a 350 meter interval at 0.5-2 meter depth increments were calculated. Shear wave velocities were not evaluated for the upper 130m of the log because of data recording problems. The sediments of Site 613 represent a progression from carbonaceous-siliceous oozes through partial lithification and cementation. A method for predicting shear wave velocities using Wood's equation, the bulk moduli of water and carbonate grains, the P-wave velocity and porosity from well logs will be described. The predictions of this method provided a theoretical maximum value for the shear wave velocity to compare with the inversion results. In general, the method works well for shear wave velocities greater than 800 m/s. The inverted data fall just below the predicted theoretical maximum value from Wood's equation and agree quite well with the trends. Below this velocity threshold, trends with depth and Poisson's ratio and the divergence of

Prediction of shear and Compressional Wave Velocities from petrophysical data utilizing genetic algorithms technique: A case study in Hendijan and Abuzar fields located in Persian Gulf

Shear and Compressional Wave Velocities along with other Petrophysical Logs, are considered as upmost important data for Hydrocarbon reservoirs characterization. Shear Wave Velocity (Vs) in Well Logging is commonly measured by some sort of Dipole Logging Tools, which are able to acquire Shear Waves as well as Compressional Waves such as Sonic Scanner, DSI (Dipole Shear Sonic imager) by Schlumbe...

ANN FOR CORRELATION BETWEEN SHEAR WAVE VELOCITY OF SOIL AND SOME GEOTECHNICAL PARAMETERS

Shear wave velocity (Vs) is known as one of the fundamental material parameters which is useful in dynamic analysis. It is especially used to determine the dynamic shear modulus of the soil layers. Nowadays, several empirical equations have been presented to estimate the shear wave velocity based on the results from Standard Penetration Test (SPT) and soil type. Most of these equations result i...

Hybrid ANFIS with ant colony optimization algorithm for prediction of shear wave velocity from a carbonate reservoir in Iran

Shear wave velocity (Vs) data are key information for petrophysical, geophysical and geomechanical studies. Although compressional wave velocity (Vp) measurements exist in almost all wells, shear wave velocity is not recorded for most of elderly wells due to lack of technologic tools. Furthermore, measurement of shear wave velocity is to some extent costly. This study proposes a novel methodolo...

Relationship between head wave amplitudes and seismic refraction velocities to detect lateral variation in the refractor

Refractor ambiguities are big problem in seismic refraction method especially in seismic engineering. There can be hidden subsurface geological phenomena such as hidden faults and shear zones which are not simply predicted by the travel-time graph or some geophysical methods. Head wave amplitudes are used to show the resolution of refractor ambiguities and the existence of anisotropy in complex...

Estimating near-surface shear wave velocities in Japan by applying seismic interferometry to KiK-net data

We estimate shear-wave velocities in the shallow subsurface throughout Japan by applying seismic interferometry to the data recorded with KiK-net, a strongmotion network in Japan. Each KiK-net station has two receivers; one receiver on the surface and the other in a borehole. By using seismic interferometry, we extract the shear wave that propagates between these two receivers. Applying this me...
